More About the Healing Properties of Selenite:

Selenite is a pearly-white form of gypsum (hydrated calcium sulfate). It is named for the moon goddess Selene (the Greek goddess of the full moon), probably because its sheen resembles the light of a full moon. Both the full moon and selenite purify energy. Although colorless, the parallel striations that run the length of this crystal often give it a whitish appearance. Gypsum’s otherworldly tendencies continue today in the white sands of New Mexico, which are so bright they can be seen from space.

A crystal ball made of selenite can represent the full moon (for rituals or magical workings), especially at times when the moon is in another phase or the night is cloudy. Since selenite has a reputation as a scrying stone, this fits right in with this beautiful stone’s still-developing tradition of use.

A natural insulator, it often warms up when held. Large, thin sheets of Selenite were once used for windowpanes and smaller sheets were used as eyeglass lenses.  The Cave of Crystals in Naica, Mexico, discovered in the year 2000, is filled with giant Selenite crystals, some of them hundreds of feet tall.

It forms natural wands, but may also be easily carved or etched. Selenite can be damaged by water, so please don’t cleanse it in water or use it in an elixir. Small pieces may also come off in needle-like slivers, so handle it carefully. The chemical formula of Selenite is CaSO₄ . 2H₂O

One Way to Work with Selenite:

When you work with Selenite for healing, it’s like having a direct connection to universal energy. This energy is incredibly cleansing and purifying.

Rough, Selenite wands (sometimes called blades), are the most common form of Selenite. They’re actually the Satin Spar form of Selenite Gypsum, and they can be used to remove negativity from the energy field.

This can be accomplished by holding the Selenite in one hand (so that the wand is horizontal or parallel to the ground) and sweeping the energy body with the wand. To sweep the aura, you should start at your head and move down towards your feet. Move the Selenite wand through your energy field while intending to remove any negative energy. I recommend doing this three times for the best result. Move along the left side of the body first, then the right side of the body, and then the center (you can repeat this on the backside of the body if you’re able as well).

Working with Selenite for Space Clearing:

Keeping a piece of Selenite in your sacred space is highly recommended. This crystal is well known for its space clearing abilities and will work non-stop to keep your space free of negative vibes. This stone may also assist you in calling upon your angels or guides to assist with protection if needed. Placing a Selenite wand on each wall of your sacred space works like a protective energetic barrier.

Working with Angel Wing Selenite:

Angel Wing Selenite (also known as Fishtail Selenite) is actually a twinned Gypsum crystal. This variety of Selenite seems to be useful in connecting you with your guides or your Angels. To use the crystal for connecting with your guides, simply hold it while going into meditation. Alternatively, you can place it above, or on top of, your Crown Chakra. It may seem challenging or even overwhelming to connect with your guides in this way, but it doesn’t have to be difficult. Just make yourself comfortable and try to go into silent meditation with the intention to meet or interact with your guides or angels.

This form of Selenite will help to enhance angelic connection or a connection with your guides. During meditation, if you are holding the intention to connect with your guides or Angels, the Selenite can help you to receive the inner knowing that the connection has been made.
