Crystal Grids consist of crystals placed in concise, geometric shapes in order to affect the flow of energy for a specific purpose – and they’re amazing! Knowing how to create a crystal grid so that it works for you is key to harnessing its healing power.

So what is a crystal grid? Basically, a crystal grid is a special arrangement of healing stones. It is used with intention to manifest a desired result. The properties of the stones used, combined with their arrangement in a sacred geometric configuration, creates a unique energy combination. This energy can be used to enhance your intention.
Using crystal grids is very powerful. It combines the energy of the stone with Sacred Geometry. By placing your stones in a geometric arrangement, the crystal energy is enhanced exponentially. Your intention is being amplified through the stones and then sent out to the Universe in a clear and direct way.

But how can you make your own powerful crystal grid to create change in your life? Here are my easy, step-by-step instructions for how to create a crystal grid:
Step 1: Selecting Stones and a Base Shape for Your Grid
- Create an affirmation or intention statement as the focus of your grid.
- Choose the stones needed for the grid and be sure they are cleansed. You may select them according to listed properties in books or articles online, or you can choose the crystals intuitively. The most common way to select your crystals is to firstly choose 1 stone for the overall theme or intention of your grid. This is the central stone – also called the anchor stone. Next, choose several supporting stones that further define your main purpose.
- Choose a sacred geometry shape that aligns with your purpose. This is to be used as a template or base for your grid (click here to download a free, printable crystal grid template pack). You can read a quick introduction to sacred geometry here if you need more information on the meanings of each shape.
- Also consider the material of your crystal grid base (wood, glass, fabric etc.) and how this might complement or amplify your intention:
Step 2: Setting up Your Crystal Grid:
- Place the anchor stone into the center of your chosen sacred geometry shape. Be sure to place this stone with intention. As you’re placing the crystal onto the grid template, say your affirmation either out loud or silently to yourself. Optionally, you may place a written intention beneath this stone at the very center of your crystal grid.
- Place the remaining stones around the central anchor stone in a clockwise direction. Make sure to follow the shape of your chosen crystal grid template. Place them exactly along the lines of the shape you’ve selected. Proper alignment of the sacred geometry shape is necessary for proper energy flow. As you are placing each of the remaining stones, state your intention for them. What energy do they bring to the grid? Do this either aloud or to yourself. These stones should support the main focus or intention for your grid, but should also work to further define your specific situation.
- Your grid might now look something like this:
- (OPTIONAL STEP) You may choose to further define your intention or purpose with crystal energy by adding additional supporting stones to your grid. These can be in another ring or layer around your central stone. You may add and additional set of stones around your anchor stone to add additional qualities. Follow the instructions outlined in step #5 above as you place these additional crystals. If adding the additional stones, your grid may look something like the photo below.

Step 3: Activating Your Crystal Grid:
To activate and enhance the energy of the grid, you may use a clear quartz crystal point or a Selenite blade to link the energy of all the crystals within the grid. Activation is most effective if you visualize each of these connections as lines of white light, linking the energy of each individual stone into one cohesive unit.
(Note: If your grid is disturbed or if the crystals are moved out of alignment, the grid will need to be re-activated.)
- Point your wand over the center stone.
- Set your intention to link the energy of all seven stones within the grid so that they work cohesively toward your intention.
- Moving from the center, “draw” a line to a stone on the outside edge of the grid.
- Moving clockwise, “draw” a line to the next stone on the outside edge of the grid. Then draw it back to the central stone (creating a triangle between the three).
- Move back up this same line to the stone you just came from, then clockwise to the next outside stone, and then back again to the center. This should create a second triangle that shares one side with the first.
- Continue in this fashion until you have connected all stones and arrive back in the center of the grid.
- Finally, point the point of your Quartz crystal toward the center of the grid. This will infuse it with universal energy so that it may carry out its purpose. It’s important to hold your intention in mind while performing the activation.
Step 4: Working with the Energy of your Completed Crystal Grid
Make time to connect with the energy of your crystal grid daily. You may want to meditate in front of your grid each day for a few minutes, or just sit in the presence of your grid to fill you up with the energy you’re trying to create in your life. Just be sure to hold space in your life for transformation in whatever form is for your highest good.
After you’ve created your grid, it’s important to make note of the changes you see in your life. This will help you to track your progress and growth.

hello there! I have a question… What would be the right stones for a crystal grid for someone who needs the financial help to get back to their old home town? any advice would be incredibly appreciated, thank you!!

Hi, this was really helpful to me & I plan to spend time reading & learning from your other posts/teachings.
But the purpose of my comment is this – I know that my soul/life purpose/soul contract for this lifetime (and several previous lifetimes apparently as I didn’t achieve it in them) is to heal the land/heal the earth. I need to do this from my home due to a severe health issue and so I’ve spent time meditating on it, asking for guidance on how to achieve this. Basically the outcome of that was that I should send healing through the earth, through roots that connect everything, to the places I’m guided to. I felt strongly that I should be outside in my garden with nature when I do this. Also I was guided to use maps of the areas I’m drawn to and to create and place a crystal grid over it to send healing to the earth.
What I need to know is would I need to keep my grids set up once I’ve sent the healing or can I dismantle it and bring it back indoors? If it needs to be left up, how long would it need to be for and would carrying it back inside following my meditation and healing be ok? This is all very new to me so far as crystal grids go. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi Michelle, that is a great question, thank you for asking! If treating it like a distance healing for the earth & the land, there’s no problem setting up outside and taking it down when the session has been finished. The amount of time you leave it up is completely up to you, I recommend using your intuition to tune in to when you feel it is complete. Hope that helps! Crystal Blessings! <3
Everything about these grids make perfect sense, very much in the way the meridians or energy centers (Chakras) of the body work: if out of alignment, the body is affected deeply and one gets sick. I have experienced this first hand and fortunately found a stone that works for me. I plan to pass this gift of intuition on to others and say to the ones who are not getting the energy of the grid: once you are grounded, PHYSICALLY, mentally and spiritually – you will start to feel the vibrations of the stones.
So get moving, start Yoga, or and exercise that works on re-aligning the chakras of the body.

Elizabeth, what worked for you specifically in aligning your Chakras?
I have 11 books on the subject and they all say somewhat different things. Confusing.
I have had 9 aura/chakra reports done and they are really messed up, BADLY….
Is it possible to build a grid that encompasses different intentions? Say patience, prosperity and relationships/spousal love? I was thinking of using Black moonstone for the grounding center, black tourmaline and carnelian? Would this work? Is it possible?

“It is possible, but think about it like this. How do you feel when you’re trying to multi-task and focus on several things at once…it becomes increasingly difficult the more things you’re trying to juggle right? You can’t really give ANY of those things the attention they deserve when you’re trying to do too much at once. The same goes for crystals and grids. If you create just 1 purpose for each grid, that means the intention will be highly focused and WAY more effective :)”

I find it perplexing that different websites start with different steps. Some place the anchor stone FIRST, some do it LAST. May I ask which is the “correct” method?
Hi Paul! Ashley says “The great thing about working with crystals is that there never really is one “correct” method. Correct is all about finding a system that works best for you and enhances your relationship with your stones. The steps I’ve outlined here re commonly followed, and they happen to be what I’ve found to be most effective. But if you try a different step-by-step technique that feels better to you, then go for it! :)”
All my stones are different. Can i use them for my outer secondary circle of crystals?
Hi Cee, great question! Yes, you can absolutely use different stones in your crystal grid, its recommended to use 6-12 but no more than 24 stones with a variety of associated properties. You can place them in any order you feel intuitively drawn to! 🙂 Hope that helps! Crystal blessings! <3
Can you glue the crystals to grid? Or is it best to always deprogram them when the grid is done? Also when you grid a home-do you grid each floor or is the main floor enough?
What is the best way to realign your chakras? I have too many books on the subject and I am confused. I need it simplified some. HELP?

Hi Michelle! You can activate a grid daily or just when you meditate. 🙂 It’s completely up to you and the intention you have for the grid! Hi! By bumped or moved, I mean if someone like a child or a pet physically disturbs some of the stones. 🙂 And there is no need to program stones for a grid – it is optional if someone feels like they need to. 🙂 You can use your grid for multiple things – you’ll just want to take the time to focus on each person and situation when activating the grid! Hi, I wondered if I can put my crystal grid in a cupboard, would it still work? It is in the window at the moment and my cat keeps sitting on it and disturbing the stones. I have a cupboard nearby that I could put the grid into, but wanted to check if that would stop it working.

I have two questions:
1. Is maintaining a high personal vibratory rate as important as the energy of the stones used when activating/reactivating a grid?
2. Will the size of the stones make a difference when attempting to manifest ‘big’ changes? i.e.,
using a large standing geode as a focus stone, large spheres as way/desire stones?
3. Has anyone ever effectively used a large .jpg image of their grid for meditation or restating its original intention when away from the actual grid itself?

Will crystal grid still work or make any changes in its effectiveness if I cover it with a plastic box? There are cockroaches in my flat and it may be fly in the grid while I am away.
Regardless the answer of above question, will insects or cockroaches disturb the energy flow of grid if they come in to contact with grid?

Hi Sreeknath! Covering the grid with a box is perfectly fine since it technically does not need to be visible to work. Instead of plastic though, I recommend a wooden box. The natural material of wood is more aligned with the earth and grounding, whereas plastic may sheld the crystals energetically. Keep in mind that it’s still recommended to place the grid in a prominent area where you can benefit from the visual and mental influence of visually seeing the grid, even if it’s covered. Keeping your crystal grid free of dust and debris, including debris from insects and cockroaches is also recommended since this can carry stagnant energy. Hope that helps! <3 Crystal Blessings!
