More About Watermelon Tourmaline:
It’s important to note that Watermelon Tourmaline differs from Bicolor Tourmaline in that the color zoning must occur in concentric rings in the Watermelon variety whereas Bicolor Tourmaline’s color zoning occurs side by side along the length of the crystal. According to Mindat.org, “the name was coined by George Robeley Howe [1860-1950] of Norway, Maine, USA. The name was first used in a Lewiston, Maine newspaper account in 1910 when describing specimens from the Havey Quarry in Poland, Maine, USA.”
How to Work with Watermelon Tourmaline:
A practical way to work with this stone is to gaze through a slice to center love in your actions. A small slice of Watermelon Tourmaline can act almost as a lens, a point of focus, and gazing through it allows you to see things from a new perspective, one were love is at the center of how you engage with others and respond to the world around you.
“This is the most precious gift true love offers – the experience of knowing we always belong.” Bell Hooks, All About Love: New Visions
Make yourself comfortable and hold a slice of Watermelon Tourmaline in your hands. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and bring the stone over your heart.
Visualize sending love from your heart to the stone. Set an intention for making love central to the way you show up in the world. It may help to write this down. How would you like to connect with others? In what ways can you give and receive more love? How can you root into love when things feel challenging? How can you rely on love to help you show up for yourself, for others, and for your community?
When you feel ready hold the slice up to one eye and gaze through the concentric circles of the Watermelon Tourmaline. See the world through the lens of pink and green, helping to shift your perspective and move you into alignment with love.
Close your eyes again, and bring the stone back to your heart. Ask that the crystal help be a touchstone to encourage you to act with love. Carry this stone with you as a talisman and reminder to root into the power of love in your everyday actions – big and small.
How to Spot Fake Watermelon Tourmaline:
There are a few imitation Watermelon Tourmalines on the market (mostly faceted glass). They are VERY uniform in appearance and don’t have the common fissures/fractures/inclusions that you’d expect to see in a natural stone.
