Remember when you were five years old, laying awake in bed with your eyes shut tight and the covers pulled over your head? What was that noise!? What was that scary-looking thing in the corner? As soon as the lights went out the whole landscape of your bedroom seems to change to something creepy and unfamiliar. We can all relate.
Do your little ones have a hard time falling asleep at night? Do they ask you to leave a little light on or do they call out to you in the night because they’re afraid of the dark (or perhaps what they think is lurking around in it?)? If these scenarios sound familiar to you, you may want to consider a new way of battling those night-time terrors: There are several crystals that have a soft, gentle energy about them that children just love, and they might be just the thing your kids’ need to feel safe and confident.
All of us (or must of us anyway!) eventually grow out of our fear of the dark and things that go bump in the night, but wouldn’t it have been nice to have something extra special to help put your five-year-old mind at ease? What if someone offered you a special protective crystal or even some monster repellant? I know that would have made me feel loads better. So that’s why I’ve compiled these tips of the best healing stones for sweet dreams.
Most kids are afraid of the dark at one point or another in their lives, and this can make the bedtime ritual quite difficult…on you AND on them. The right healing crystals emit a soft, subtle energy that banish bedtime fears and encourage sweet dreams (in little ones and grown-ups alike). Here are three ways to use crystals with your kids to help put them at ease so they release bedtime fears:
Healing Stones for Sweet Dreams Tip #1: Crystal Touchstones
Howlite is the ultimate “sweet dreams” stone, helping children to feel safe and supported when they’re scared of being alone in the dark at bedtime. It has a soothing energy that let’s kids know they’re special rock will help protect them and keep them safe while they go on fun and exciting adventures in dreamland. Tucking a piece of Howlite into your child’s pillowcase or placing it on the bedside table (perhaps even letting him or her hold the crystal when being tucked in) provides a touchstone, or reminder, that they don’t have to be scared.

Healing Stones for Sweet Dreams Tip #3: Crystal Grids
Another useful tool to help get your little ones to sleep at night is a crystal grid. If you’re unfamiliar with grids, please be sure to read this article for some background on the “what” “why” and “how” of grid-making before diving into the info. below.
A quick explanation is that a crystal grid is a geometric arrangement of healing stones used with intention to manifest a desired result. Using crystal grids is very powerful as it combines the energy of the stone with Sacred Geometry (the language of the Universe). In this way, the crystal energy is enhanced exponentially because your intention is being amplified through the stones and then sent out to the Universe in a clear and direct way through the sacred geometric formations.
In the simple grid pictured here, Black Tourmaline is used at the four corners of the bed for protection as well as to remove worry and anxiety. The Rose Quartz heart (a tumbled stone or rough stone may be substituted) is placed at the area of the child’s heart chakra (this stone can be placed beneath the bed, or you may have your child hold the stone over his or her heart while falling asleep if appropriate). Rose Quartz is naturally calming and supportive and can help your child relax. Finally, a piece of Howlite is placed in each pillow case to promote sweet dreams and restful sleep.

I’d really like to try the grid as a passive foundation for sleep. Is there a chance howlite can have an adverse, overstimulating effect? My 9 year old has trouble falling asleep alone and wakes frequently. She’s quite sensitive. I’ve tried lepidolite near her pillow and crazy lace agate just in the room. We’re not hitting any sweet spots yet. Should I have her feel a response from the stones to see what might work? I keep rose quartz around all the time. In the moments of acute anxiety, she will not take many steps to calm like hold a crystal or breath, even though she absolutely loves stones.

You can absolutely see what response she has with them, or what she’s drawn to just by being near them.
